In recent years Haval and GWM have become household names. The build quality of their vehicles is starting to pique the interest of consumers from all sections of the vehicle market.

An article done by timeslive.co.za reported that the Haval Jolion sold 951 units in September alone and the Haval H6 logged an impressive 295 units. This data was collected from Naamsa Automotive Business Council.

GWM and Haval are also joining the Hybrid market. With climate change and increasing topic of conversation vehicle manufacturers are adapting to meet the needs of the ever-growing hybrid market. Exploring L.E.M.O.N. Haval’s new modular platform. – CMH Haval Little Falls

Haval has had quite a big year in South Africa. It has launched the popular Haval Jolion and their new shape flagship the Haval H6. Both vehicles have been built on a new Platform designed by Haval called L.E.M.O.N. a new lightweight build that was been praised by industry experts. But what is L.E.M.O.N. why is it such a big deal for the manufacturer?

From a manufacturer perspective building vehicles on a lighter platform has plenty of advantages. Lower deadweight means better driving range which is good in times where we are looking for ways to be more energy efficient. With the launch of the National VI Emission Standard by the Chinese government which aims to reduce carbon emissions, this new platform paves the way for Haval to achieve its goal of producing greener vehicles.

L.E.M.O.N. Structure

Additional benefits of the platform mean better performance from the engine. Acceleration will improve because the engine is not carrying as much weight. Braking will improve because the brake discs and pads will not work as hard to stop a lighter vehicle.

While all this sounds great the question now is how did Haval go about making their vehicles more lightweight? Haval made changes to the vehicle structure. GWM used an MDO (multidisciplinary design) approach to identify ways to arrange materials of the vehicle in the most effective way. Once the arrangement is done GWM then looks for lighter materials to build the vehicle and selects to put said materials in different places depending on the load conditions.

All this means Haval will be bringing greener, better performing, and safer vehicles to consumers soon. Right now, however, the only vehicles in South Africa using this platform are the Jolion and the H6. The 1st generation Haval H6 was launched was first introduced at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2011 and the vehicle has been Haval’s flagship ever since. The 2nd generation H6 was introduced in 2017 in China however this model did not make it to the South Africa shores. Needless to say, the brand would want to ensure that they greatly improve the 3rd generation and judging by its looks and features they have set out to do exactly that.

The Festival of Golf – CMH Haval Little Falls

It’s been a full year since the Coronavirus pandemic gripped the country and its safe to say that the fatigue of not being able to go about our daily lives the way were use has long set in. The lack of human contact has undoubtedly hurt the way dealerships are used to doing brand awareness. It is therefore imperative we use strategy to create brand awareness and find any avenue that will bring people back to our dealership.

The Randpark Festival of Golf presented a unique opportunity for us to create the awareness we have bene looking for. This festival had over 2000 people participate in one way or another. The club itself has been open for 80 years and it has a loyal following of members. We sponsored the event for the duration of the festival.

To make the event more exciting Haval ran a competition on the 25th and the 26th of February 2021 where you could win a Haval H1 if you got a hole-in-one. Unfortunately, nobody drove away in the vehicle. We did have 2 players come close. One player was a mere 80m away from the hole.

We also had the P-Series single cab and double on display between the halfway house and the Firethorn golf course. The P-series has been quite an exciting addition by GWM with key features such Lane support system, Lane departure warning, Blind spot warning system, 360-degree camera and a Reverse camera.

In addition to the P-series we had the Haval H6 C which has been on the market for quite some time now. Haval has a R30 000 trade assistance deal running on this vehicle for the duration of the first quarter of 2021. The Haval H6 C boasts features like a panoramic sunroof, which comes standard in this model, Xenon headlights, Blind spot information system and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The History of GWM – CMH Haval Little Falls

With all the excitement around The GWM P-Series we thought it might be worth taking a look at the History of GWM. How did they land up at this point and who were the influential players in building the brand to where it is today? GWM was named after the Great Wall of China and it was formed in the year 1984. GWM is currently China’s biggest producer of SUV’s. GWM’s started with low volume production of trucks. The first of these trucks was called CC130 which was followed by the CC513. In the 1990’s the brand started producing sedan vehicles grabbing the attention of the growing middle class in China. The brand first entered the South African market in 2007 launching with single cab and double cab bakkies. This meant they entered one of the biggest contested markets in the country. A few years later the company began production on a number of SUV’s and pick up’s namely the HAVAL H3 Diesel Comfortable Model, HAVAL M2, HAVAL H5 European Style Version, HAVAL H5 Intelligent Version, HAVAL H5 Automatic Transmission, MPV model Great Wall V80, WINGLE 5, and the first sedan car Voleex C30. The GMW brand we see today started to become more recognisable with the global launch of the Haval H6 which won numerous safety awards and is one the icons of the GWM/Haval brand. In 2014 GWM began is focus around production of SUV’s. The H1, H2 and the H6 were the models our market is most familiar with but other models such as the H8 and the H9 were also launched. In 2019 GWM official announced the P-Series and planned to sell more than 200 000 units by 2020 and sell more than 3 million units globally by 2025. The launch of the P-series has been quite successful globally and GWM are on track to achieve this ambitious target by the end of 2025. It’s been a little over a month since the initial launch of the P-Series and the excitement is still growing. The P-series is GWM’s latest offering to the bakkie market which is fiercely contested. It has the looks, features and its pricing is undoubtedly going to appeal to many South Africans But just how good is the P-series? To answer, we turned to veteran motoring TV and Radio presenter to answer some of our questions. 1.) Now that you have seen the P-Series, what was your first impression? First impressions. I like the size of the vehicle, commanding presence and is a good-looking vehicle…but there again it’s a personal choice. 2.) Given your experience with all thing’s vehicles, do you think the P-Series is serious competitor in bakkie market in SA? Is it a serious competitor??? We need to remember that the South African bakkie driver is very brand loyal, so for the P series to be competitive it has to offer a whole lot more at a very affordable price. I am happy to say that it comes pretty close with all its features. It is priced to sell. As a work horse bakkie we need to see the numbers increase on the road. 3.) What did you think of the features and ride of the P-Series? It is a great ride on the road, and I will not comment on its off-road capabilities as I did not try it under those conditions. 4.) Is there anything that you could say GWM could improve on with the P-Series? Very disappointed with its power plant. Quite slow on pull away. Needs a bigger and more powerful engine. 5.) The P-Series was announced at The Auto Shanghai and since then the South African market has been anticipating its arrival. The New P-Series Pickup is GWM’s latest offering in the SA market. With vehicles like the Hilux and Ranger already dominating the market, it’s a welcome alternative! This new comfort vehicle comes with safety features such as Lane Support System, Lane departure warning, Lane keeping assist, Lane Centre keeping, Blind spot information system, 360-degree camera and a Reverse camera.
