CMH Haval Pinetown – The Importance of Regular Tyre Checkup

May 4, 2023 By Rokkit

Have you checked, rotated, and balanced your tyres recently? Rotating and balancing your tyres can prolong their lifespan and improve your vehicle’s performance. You can visit CMH Haval Pinetown for advice on where to purchase tyres and how to run your car efficiently.

So, what is a tyre rotation?

It involves switching the position of your tyres to ensure balanced treadwear and optimal performance. Balancing, alignment, and tyre rotation are distinct processes. Front tyres wear out faster than rear tyres due to uneven treadwear caused by pressure from braking and turning.

Tyre rotation involves switching the wheel position to ensure even wear and favourable performance. Balancing ascertains the tread wears down equally across all tyres, while alignment evens the weight distribution.

Why should you rotate your tyres?

Tyre rotation has many benefits, including balanced treadwear, improved performance and handling, increased safety, and longevity in all your tyres. It reduces the potential for tyre failure.

How are tyres rotated and balanced?

Several factors determine tyre rotation, such as your vehicle’s drive train, tyre type, and driving habits. All tyres must be balanced and aligned to ensure safety during the rotation process.

How often should you rotate your tyres?

The frequency of tyre rotation depends on various factors, such as tyre type and vehicle condition. Rotation should be done about every 8000 kilometres, or every six months, and can be scheduled with an oil change or winter tyres.

CMH Haval Pinetown Advises You Against Ignoring Warning Lights

March 1, 2023 By Rokkit

A spot check for all your warning lights should be compulsory for every motorist. Here is why you should focus on warning lights.

Warning lights inspection

What do car dashboard lights mean?

The dashboard lights are a primary signal of vehicle performance and a warning sign if there is a malfunction with your engine.

Different lights will pick up individual problems in your vehicle, so it’s vital to take heed of a dashboard light and do repairs before it becomes an expensive (or dangerous) problem.

Standard warning lights you should know

Here are some regular dashboard warning lights and problems that CMH Haval Pinetown came across:

Engine light

The check engine light turns on if your car is experiencing engine problems. Engine problems can identify by high engine temperature (overheated engine) or even a catalytic converter problem and fault wires. Engine issues can cause costly and irreparable damage if not addressed on time.

Driver retrieving the spare wheel from its compartment

Brake light

The braking system will indicate when there is a problem, and the brake light will appear. Sometimes it can signal that your emergency brake is still up while driving. It is vital to check your brake pads if this light or your automatic braking system (ABS) as failure can cause crucial problems.

Oil pressure

Your car’s oil pressure warning light will turn off when there are fewer oil levels, low pressure or if your oil levels are too heated. Oil helps with engine grease, and not continuing and checking your oil levels can lead to significant engine damage. If your light reflects on, it is time for an immediate oil change.

How to fix daily issues related to dashboard warning lights

There are a lot more warnings that your car system will give you when something goes wrong.

Warning triangle on display

The appropriate way to tackle problems is to have maintenance and repair work done to prevent damage. The experts at CMH Haval Pinetown workshop can help you with maintenance and repair for any issue that your car experiences in its lifetime.

8 Tips for Jump-Starting a Vehicle with a Battery Booster Pack

February 7, 2023 By Rokkit

Jump-starting a vehicle is often a hassle. It can be a great plan to keep a battery booster pack in your vehicle. That way, you can jump-start your car even if you can’t get another vehicle to help you.

Jump-Starting a Vehicle
Jump-Starting a vehicle with a battery booster pack

Before you proceed, make sure:

  • The vehicle battery is not damaged or leaking.
  • You remove any metal accessories and dangling clothing like a tie or scarf.

8 steps to using a vehicle battery booster:

Check the battery booster

  • Keep the booster packs fully charged.
  • Put the battery booster pack somewhere stable, away from the engine.

Connect the red jump lead

  • Connect the red positive (+) booster pack jump lead to the positive (+) battery terminal.

Connect the black jump lead

  • Connect the black negative (-) jump lead to an earthing point on your vehicle. Unpainted metal on the engine block or VIN is the best.

Switch on the pack

  • Switch on the booster pack once the battery packs are connected.

Try to start the vehicle

  • Proceed to turn on the key in the ignition.
  • If it does not start after a few tries, there’s probably an underlying problem that needs attention.

Let the engine run

  • If the vehicle starts, keep the engine running for about five minutes.
  • After five minutes, switch off the booster and allow the engine to run for five to ten minutes.

Turn off and disconnect

  • Turn off the engine.
  • Disconnect the leads in the reverse order of how you placed them.

Restart your vehicle

  • Try turning the keys in the ignition to see if the car starts again.
Jump-Starting a Vehicle
Retrieve your booster pack from its compartment

What to do after you’ve jump-started your vehicle

If you’ve managed to jump-start your vehicle, keep the engine running to charge the battery.

Charge the engine by driving (not in stop-start traffic) for at least thirty minutes. You can also use a portable vehicle battery charger to top up the charger on your battery.

How often should you change a vehicle battery?

On average, batteries last between 5 and 7 years, but you should only consider changing a vehicle battery when it’s showing signs of worsening. If the battery is more than five years old and seems like it’s struggling to start the car, get it checked out.

Connect the terminals before turning on the ignition

Contact CMH Haval Pinetown, and we can assist you with ways to ensure your safety on the road and take care of your battery problems.

Here are some tips from CMH Haval Pinetown what to do when your car overheats

August 15, 2022 By Rokkit

WHY DO ENGINES OVERHEAT?

Engines can overheat for a number of reasons. It could be because something’s wrong with the cooling system and heat is not able to escape the engine compartment. The source of the issue could include a cooling system leak, faulty radiator fan, broken water pump, or clogged coolant hose. Regardless of the problem’s source, an overheating engine isn’t something you want to let go of. Your engine could sustain serious, if not permanent, damage.

Here are some tips CMH Haval Pinetown can advise when a problem like this occurs:

# KILL THE AIRCON AND CRANK THE HEAT.

Immediately turn off the air conditioner to reduce stress on the engine. Then, turn the dial to maximum heat. This can help pull heat away from the engine to keep it from overheating until you can pull over in a safe location. You may get a tad hot yourself, but a few minutes of discomfort is a small price to pay compared to major engine repairs.

#FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER.

Pull over and shut off the car. Allow the engine to cool for at least 15 minutes. Keep an eye on the temperature gauge, as it should move back to a normal range as the engine cools. While you’re waiting (and watching the gauge), put together a plan to get your overheated engine checked out. Call a friend, a tow truck, or your local Roadside Assistance for help.

#CHECK AND ADD COOLANT

If your coolant level is low, a quick top-off could help protect your engine and prevent overheating until you can get things fixed. However, this step won’t do much good if a coolant hose is clogged or the source of your troubles is a broken radiator fan or water pump. Consult your owner’s manual to find the location of your coolant reservoir tank and to learn how to add coolant to your vehicle.

# RESTART THE ENGINE.

If your car isn’t being towed, now’s the time to carefully restart your engine and drive to CMH Haval Pinetown. Keep an eye on the temperature gauge as you drive. When it rises again, pull over and let the system cool.

WHAT NOT TO DO WHEN YOUR ENGINE OVERHEATS

# DON’T PANIC.

Your engine isn’t keeping its cool, but you can! Avoid swerving through traffic or slamming on your brakes when pulling off the road.

#DON’T KEEP DRIVING.

If your engine is overheating but still running, you’re not doing it any favours by staying on the road. You may be able to get to your destination before it gives out entirely, but you may cause significant (and costly) damage by pushing your engine too far.

# DON’T OPEN THE BONNET IMMEDIATELY

Once you’ve pulled over, wait for the engine to cool before popping the bonnet to check things out. Opening the bonnet immediately can put you at risk of burns or injuries from spewing steam or smoke. Patience is key. Wait until the engine temperature gauge settles before opening the bonnet.

# DON’T LET THE ISSUE LINGER.

An overheating engine won’t resolve on its own, even if it seems to be fixed after you add a touch of coolant. It will only get more serious if left unaddressed. Get to the root of the issue before you damage your engine.

HOW TO PREVENT AN OVERHEATED CAR ENGINE

Take care of your car, and it will take care of you. The most effective way to prevent an overheating car engine is to have regular coolant flushes and exchanges performed on your car. In addition, you should keep up with radiator maintenance as recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. Routine inspections can also help you fix any potential radiator or engine issues before they worsen.

This August, feel the heat at the beach, not on the road. Keep your cool. Start making your adventurous journey with Haval and GWM

Here are 5 things every car owner needs from CMH Haval Pinetown

July 27, 2022 By Rokkit

There is a lot of commitment involved in buying a new car. The ownership of a vehicle involves regular maintenance. It is possible to depend on towing services most of the time. However, there are still instances when a few minor issues here and there can save you a lot of time and money. Check out the 5 essentials every car owner should have:

#The vehicle Owner’s Manual

It is the most basic and underappreciated asset of your car that can help you in an emergency. The owner’s manual is generally kept in the glove compartment and contains all the information about everything in your vehicle. For example, you can read about the required tyre pressure or recommended fuel levels. In short, it is a driver’s best friend for troubleshooting or maintenance-related advice about your vehicle. For every vehicle that is delivered at CMH Haval Pinetown, the owner’s manual is explained.

#First Aid Kit

A first aid kit is an inexpensive item that every car owner should have in their vehicle. Accidents can happen anytime, and real danger might be just around the corner. You might end up in a difficult situation in a remote area, and that’s when the first aid kit is the only medical help you can get. For passengers travelling on long routes with little connectivity, it can be a lifesaver. So, it’s highly recommended that you keep a first aid kit in your vehicle containing all the basic medicines and bandages.

#A Spare Tyre with a jack and spanner

A flat tyre is probably the most common issue you will face as a car owner. The funny thing is that it usually happens when you least expect it. You need to always have a spare tyre in your car as it saves a lot of time. You will also need compatible tools to replace your flat tyre. A spanner and a jack are convenient and valuable items that you can rely on when replacing your flat tyre.

#Jumper Cables

A dead car is never a pretty sight and causes a lot of frustration for travellers. Your vehicle could die in the winter season or when the battery weakens to a point where the car cannot start. In such a situation, you need jumper cables that help to kickstart your battery. You will not need to head to the repair shop if you have someone who has a car battery near you. These jumper cables are used to charge one battery through another.

#A Bottle of Windshield Wiper Fluid

Windshield wiper fluid is a very underrated item that most people neglect. When you drive in cold weather or under foggy conditions, your visibility diminishes, and it is almost always bleak. There are high chances of accidents if you can’t see clearly. You should invest in a high-quality windshield wiper fluid and always keep your visibility clear. You can purchase one at CMH Haval Pinetown’s workshop.

You can also keep other items in your car, like your phone charger, blankets, and a flashlight. You can keep the things you feel would help you in your journey, as they can prove helpful at times.

5 things to keep in mind when choosing the right mechanic

June 10, 2022 By Rokkit

Choosing the right mechanic is important when your vehicle needs attention. Visiting our workshop CMH Haval Pinetown, you will never make a mistake with repairing or servicing your vehicle with us. Here are some questions to keep in mind when choosing the right mechanic:

1. Have you repaired or serviced cars like my brand before?

When you use a new mechanic that you have never tried before, it’s important to ensure they have worked on cars of a similar brand and model to yours. This is especially important if your car different make or if you drive something like a diesel truck, which will require special maintenance. Making sure the mechanic you choose is experienced with cars like yours is one of the best ways to guarantee a good experience. CMH Haval Pinetown workshop is RMI approved, we can repair any brand.

2. Do you offer free quotes before the actual job is done?

When you visit a new mechanic, you should be able to get an estimate for services without paying out of pocket. As you interview a new mechanic, make sure you ask about their estimate process. It is essential to get the estimate in writing with a clear understanding that once the repairs begin if anything else is discovered, you’ll get a call to approve any additional repairs & expenses before they’re started. We feel it’s important to note here: Estimates are just that, estimates. There are times more is going on with a vehicle that may need attention and can’t be known by the mechanic until they get under the hood. Giving complete information when you bring your vehicle in is very helpful, as is developing trust with your mechanic that they will give you their best advice and service.

3. Do you provide a warranty for parts and services?

No matter how experienced a mechanic is, parts are imperfect. So, what happens if the mechanic puts a part in your car that fails? Most reputable workshops deal with this “what if” by providing written guarantees on parts and labour – up to a certain time limit. Some shops also go by mileage.

For example, a repair shop may guarantee a 1-year/12,000-km warranty on a part, or offer discounted replacement parts, if you find you need them. Be sure to ask your repair shop about their warranty policies.

4. How do you handle unexpected expenses?

Consider this: you took your car to the mechanic for some engine repair. You agreed on the price and the timeline and walked away happy. When they open the hood, though, they discover a cracked hose that needs to be repaired, too. What do they do? Knowing the answer to this question can mean the difference between paying for work you agreed on and walking into the workshop to discover an unexpected bill that’s much higher than what you agreed to pay. Be sure to ask in advance how your mechanic will handle surprise repair bills.

5. How long have you been in business?

Good mechanics are experienced mechanics. Before you move forward with any workshop, ask how long they’ve been in business. This will be an important factor when choosing a mechanic. The best workshops have a long track record of success, lots of great customer reviews (Google or Facebook are great places to read a workshop’s reviews), and plenty of experience to back up their claims. These workshops pride themselves on building relationships with their customers and going above and beyond to ensure client satisfaction.

When are your car repairs covered by car insurance?

May 19, 2022 By Rokkit

There are many things that fully comprehensive insurance can cover, as long as you have the right policy with the right company. While a regular compulsory third-party liability policy will help take care of the other party involved in an Incident, you need to make sure you are well covered and something more comprehensive to cover your own property and assets.

What type of repairs can be done, how the repairs are done, and which repairer can do the job are all questions that are part of the insurance policy that you take? Every insurance is different, but the most important thing is you get your worth out from what you are paying and make use of your policy. CMH Haval Pinetown offers different types of insurance with the best rates.

The basic role of car insurance

When you get involved in an accident the main role of insurance is to pay out for the damages that have been incurred. Regular wear and tear are not covered by any insurance policy unless you take a policy that is only meant for that. This also means that you will not be paid by the insurance agency for any of the above circumstances of wear and tear claim. You will only be paid out for what the policy states and a certain portion will be paid. You can even tow your vehicle to our workshop at CMH Haval Pinetown to be assessed and send through a claim to your insurance agent. Here are some of the things car insurance types will cover.

Body damage

Provided that you have an add on in your policy, collisions and accidents will be covered. If you’re involved in a vehicle accident with a third party or on the road, and your car has been badly damaged, then it should be possible for your policy to cover the repair costs. Also, the policy can also protect you against acts of vandalism.

If mechanical damage occurred due to the accident and not wear and tear, it’s also possible for the policy to assist your repair bills.

Provided your policy has the right cover in detail, it can cover the repair costs of your car if an act of nature damages it. Things like a flood, falling rocks, and falling fruit, may be covered by the insurance provided. There is a certain amount that is allocated for these.

Mechanical issues

If your car breaks down because of negligence, wear and tear, or normal use, the insurance policy might not cover it unless it comes with a provision for a mechanical breakdown, but even then, that will be subject to approval. If the mechanical repair is required because of an accident, then it is covered under your insurance policy.

The warranty comes to play in this part. The car manufacturer warrants your car for a set period. During that period, you will be able to make a claim in case there are any problems related to the manufacture of the automobile. Consumables like brake pads, fluids, and oils are generally not covered by a warranty or an insurance policy. You must cover that cost on your own.
