Since May 2017 sales of the now infamous Haval brand climbed steadily as more and more South Africans chose the brand and pegged their bets on safety, reliability and trust. The corner stones of the Haval ethos the world over. From humble beginnings the brand is now selling in excess of 1000 units regularly with a new record sales figure being set in January 2020 of 1083 units sold within the borders of South Africa.
The Haval H2 is positioned as Haval’s global C category volume model and is not only famous globally as Haval’s first “World Car” but continues to maintain presence for its affordability together with its value proposition status. Launched in China in 2014 and in SA three years later the H2 was positioned originally as the “ideal choice” product offering. H2 has since become the global leader in the most competitive auto segment namely small SUV. The H2 is a multipurpose family vehicle with notable superiority in performance, safety, specification levels and styling. The H2 is sold in over 40 countries with approximately 16000 units sold monthly in China alone. The H2 has sold at a rate of over 10000 units per month in China for the last four years consecutively. In July 2019 the H2 sported over 750 000 retail units globally as well as being Haval South Africa’s top selling model since 2017. In-fact since its launch in South Africa, 7235 Haval H2’s have been sold until December of 2019 and January 2020 saw over 500 units sold alone, making it one of the top three bestselling small SUVs in South Africa. A true Sino-SA success story.
Recently a group of motoring journalists headed off to the picturesque location of Hermanus to view something a little different than what the area is popular for. These journalists were there to experience the official media launch of the all new Haval H2, which officially launched at the end of January 2020 after a very popular first reveal in 2019 at the Festival of Motoring. Underneath, the new H2 is largely unchanged from the previous model featuring the same 1.5 Turbo engine, chassis and gear box configurations as well as suspension. However, the interior and styling is another story. The new H2 features a new hexagonally shaped grill, new front and rear bumpers as well as fenders and new arrow shaped headlights with LED technology on the Luxury model and a new hexagonally shaped taillight. The rear also features a new chrome strip, a realigned reflector with a raised protection strip as well as larger twin exhaust pipes and a new splitter plate all coming together to form a more dynamic, sporty and aggressive design. The wheels feature an all new 5 spoke 18-inch design rounding out what is a sexier, more stylish vehicle than its predecessor.
Internally the new H2 features a trendy, convenient, modern and user-friendly layout for a more pleasurable driving experience. As the founder of the HAVAL brand, Wei Jianjun has always had his focus on the future. During the event, Jiianjun made a speech with the theme of “Global Dream·China Heart”. He said that the globalization of Chinese brands is an inevitable trend. In future development, HAVAL must aspire to become truly global by creating products with global competitiveness, by building a globally influential brand and to become the global SUV leader. At the ceremony, Wei Jianjun officially released the HAVAL “521” Globalization Strategy, which simply put, is to realize the annual sales volume of 2 million vehicles within 5 years and to become the global No.1 professional SUV brand. The release of this strategy indicates HAVAL’s clear intentions to become the global No.1 SUV brand in the near future. The speech was met with a standing ovation from everyone present.
Wei Jianjun also alluded to the creation of a blueprint for HAVAL’s future technology research and development, intelligent network, and alternative energy development.
At present, HAVAL has established eight R&D centers around the world, including smart drive, intelligent network, alternative energy and modeling. The continuous improvement of the global R&D layout provides leading technical support for HAVAL to create products with global competitiveness. On behalf of HAVAL, Wei Jianjun also announced the initiative that has been launched to establish a global alliance of Chinese auto enterprises. HAVAL is willing to share innovative global technologies with Chinese self-owned brands, carrying out in-depth cooperation in all fields such as alternative energy, intelligent drive and intelligent network and promote the globalization of Chinese automobiles so that China could transform its automobile landscape from a major auto importer to a major auto exporter.
Furthermore, Phil Simmons, the Global Design Director and Vice President of Great Wall, also gave his in-depth interpretation of the global design concept of HAVAL. He defined the future globalization design language of HAVAL as “i-Home Platform”, which includes three trends, namely SUV coupe, AI connectivity and platform expansion. The platform can be flexibly expanded into multiple formats namely traditional fuel SUV, fuel-cell-powered SUV, plug-in hybrid SUV, hydrogen-powered SUV and other new-energy-powered SUV models.
